Video shows how GameCube Emulation performs on the Galaxy S8

We're a little over a week away from the release of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus to consumers. For those avid mobile gamers still on the fence about whether or not to purchase either smartphone, perhaps a video might color your opinion. A recent video by YouTuber GuruAidTechSupport shows off how the Samsung Galaxy S8 stands up to the CPU intensive Nintendo GameCube emulator known as Dolphin Emulator.

As you can see in the video above, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is able to handle playing GameCube games such as Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Mario Sunshine, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker quite smoothly without any significant frame rate drops. Compare that to how these games run on other flagship smartphones, and the performance of the Galaxy S8, at least when considering GameCube emulation, blows them out of the water.

This is largely thanks to the improvements made to the CPU that comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, though, so we can't really attribute the credit to the Galaxy S8 itself. Furthermore, the team behind the Dolphin Emulator itself has made incredible strides in increasing performance for ARM-based devices in recent months, so much of the credit goes to them too.

However, because the Galaxy S8 will likely be the only device running on the Snapdragon 835 SoC for months to come given its supply shortages, the Samsung flagships will be your only choice if you're itching to play GameCube games on the go. A lot of Super Smash Bros. Melee players are probably excited about this possibility, but we'll have to see if the Galaxy S8 can maintain this level of performance consistently to satiate the 60 FPS needs of competitive players.
