Samsung Galaxy S8 Active SM-G892A Headed to AT&T in June 2017; Codenamed ‘Cruiser’

With the Samsung Galaxy S8 launched, many wondered if there will be an 'Active' variant that will be launched this year. The Galaxy S Active lineup borrows a few traits from the S-flagship of the year and packs it in a rugged body designed for outdoor use. With the Galaxy S8 featuring a radical design with its Infinity display, it will be interesting to see how Samsung adopts that, or if at all it does, into the device.

What is known about the Galaxy S8 Active is that it indeed exists. According to Sammobile, the S8 Active bears the model number SM0G829A and is codenamed Cruiser. The device will be coming to AT&T as an exclusive — the lineup gets its refresh in June every year, so we can see the device launching around the same time frame.

The Galaxy S8 Active is expected to come with a larger battery than seen on the S8, not unlike previous Active variants. The device will be IP68 certified for dust and water resistance as devices in the Active lineup usually do. The device will likely also bear the MIL-STD-810G standard for ruggedness. It is not known how Samsung will go about doing many of the other design aspects of the device: Will they go back to using physical buttons from the S8's onscreen button? Will the device have a dedicated key for Bixby? We hope to learn more as the device comes closer to launch.
