Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro receives unofficial LineageOS 14.1 with nearly everything working

Xiaomi's Redmi Note series is one of the company's most popular. With India being a focus for Xiaomi as of late, the Chinese OEM decided to launch the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro in India last month. We were at the launch event and went hands-on with both devices. Since then they have been selling out for each flash sale that has been made available. So far, there has been some developer support for the series here at XDA and now there is an unofficial build of LineageOS 14.1 available for the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

As of right now, there are three different variants of the Redmi Note 5 series that were recently released. We have the Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 5 Plus, and lastly the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Each contains different hardware with different price points as a way for Xiaomi to offer a product for people with different budgets. As of right now, an official release of TWRP has been made public for the Redmi Note 5 as well as the Redmi Note 5 Plus, while an unofficial version of TWRP has been released for the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

To confuse things even further, the Redmi Note 5 Pro that was launched in India was rebranded as the Redmi Note 5 in China and will be launching with Android 8.1 Oreo. There's also reason to believe that the Redmi Note 5 Pro that was launched in India (with Android 7.1 Nougat) will be receiving Project Treble support in a future update. With all the attention these devices have received, it's great to see that the developer community is getting behind them as well. The Redmi Note 5 Pro has just received an unofficial build of LineageOS 14.1 thanks to the work from XDA Senior Member vasishath and XDA Senior Member Shahan_mik3.

A lot of unofficial builds are treated as alpha or beta releases as there are various bits of hardware that do not function as they should. However, vasishath says just about everything is working as it should. This includes VoLTE, RIL, the fingerprint sensor, WiFi, Bluetooth and more. However, it should be noted that SELinux is currently set to permissive in the current build at this time.
