Unofficial TWRP for the OnePlus 5T Released—Make Backups and Root the Phone

The OnePlus 5T was just announced today. Besides the display, there isn't much different under-the-hood when comparing it to the OnePlus 5. We haven't yet been able to determine if unified builds are possible for the OnePlus 5/5T, but thanks to the kernel source release we do know that the jelly scrolling issue is likely gone. Although the phone itself has yet to reach the hands of any consumers (it launches on November 21st), we already have a working TWRP build for the phone.

OnePlus 5T TWRP

Since the TWRP build for the OnePlus 5 wouldn't boot, we simply repacked the TWRP build from the OnePlus 5 with the OnePlus 5T's kernel. It works as you would expect—you can wipe partitions, make backups, and flash zip files. Of course, there aren't any ROMs, kernels, or other modifications actually available for the phone yet, but it's nice to have this already available for those of you day 1 flashaholics.

Download TWRP for the OnePlus 5T

You can download the TWRP build we made at the link above. Once you've unlocked the OnePlus 5T's bootloader, you can boot it or flash it by sending one of the following commands.

Boot:

  fastboot boot o5ttwrp.img

Flash:

  fastboot flash recovery o5ttwrp.img

Keep in mind that this is an unofficial build that we made for our own testing purposes. Now that the kernel source for the device is released, a proper TWRP build can be made by a developer. Our OnePlus 5T forums will open up soon, so once the forum is live you can follow future developments there.

We will hopefully be able to determine soon if it is possible to make unified builds. Such a development would greatly improve the customizability of the OnePlus 5T as development efforts would not have to be fragmented across our already popular OnePlus 5 forums and the new OnePlus 5T forums.
