The Pixel line from Google originated as a high end version of the Chromebook product line. The last time we saw one of these devices were launched was a couple of years ago with the Chromebook Pixel, and many have been waiting for Google to release a new version of it. Alas, we were told not to expected one. However, now we've learned of a rumor that claims Google will be launching a refresh of their Chromebook Pixel line as well as a miniature version of the Google Home connected speaker.
Sadly, Android Police says they don't have any additional information about this new Chromebook, but speculates that it could have something to do with a previously leaked device. Last year, the publication wrote about an unreleased device called Project Bison. At the time, it was scheduled to launch in Q3 of 2017 and was said to be running a highly-modified version of Android known internally as Andromeda. Andromeda seems to have been scrapped though, so it's possible this new Chromebook is the result of that.
Project Bison was said to be a product that could compete with Apple's MacBook and Microsoft's Surface Pro devices. Rumored specs pointed to a 12.3″ screen, 32GB or 128GB of internal storage, 8GB or 16GB of RAM, and the option of buying a Wacom stylus with it. You can think of the ASUS Chromebook Flip series and get a picture of what Google was rumored to be going for with Project Bison. All of this is speculation though as Android Police's source was unable to confirm any of these details.
Along with releasing this new Chromebook with the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, they were also told that Google would be releasing a mini version of Google Home as well. This is something that could do very well for the company as long as they can get the price down low enough to compete with the likes of the Amazon Echo Dot. Details on pricing are currently unavailable right now though, so we may have to wait until the launch before we know any more.
