I can't boot into stock recovery

I can't seem to get my phone to boot into the recovery. I must have tried 40 times.

These are the steps I've found online.

1. Power off phone
2. Press power button and volume down button until lg logo appears the release both buttons.
3. Press the buttons again one second later.

I get no results....

Anyone have a successful method?
