I am not at all techy and want to know if the following will work should I decide to do the root. I found this on Amazon (a review), and wondered, if followed exactly, would it work without giving me trouble? I would not know how to tweek things. Lol

"5.0 out of 5 starsBest e-reader the market has to offer, but you need to unleash the power of Android system!

I did not buy my NGP from Amazon, but it saddens me that such a polished and powerful product gets such a low average customer rating. Looks most customers as well as all those so-called "expert reviewers" really have no idea how to properly set up and tweak the e-reader. All you need is a PC and basic knowledge on Android. Here is what I strongly suggest:
1, Connect to a wi-fi network to update to the newest system. My NGP came with Android 4.2.2, it automatically updated to 4.4.2 with Digital Rights Management, so you can purchase books from non-Nook book stores.
2, Install the ADB driver to your PC (very easy to find from the web). Enable USB debugging then install a launcher app and a file manager app to your Nook. The launcher will provide a home screen where third-party applications can be launched, so that the NGP can be used as a general-purpose Android device. There are many free launcher apps downloadable from various Android markets, such as 1 Mobile Market or Coolapk (Google Play store is not available on NGP). Popular launchers include ADW, Lightning, FTL, Nova, Apex, Nook Touch Launcher...... As for the file manager, either Root Explorer or ES Explorer, among others, will serve the purpose well.
3, While still connected to your PC, root the unit! Rooting tool can be downloaded from the XDA developer site, easy as pie. Look for "rootNook".
4, Install the xPosed installer, xPosed additions, xPosed additions Pro, and xPosed Prevent Running, all downloadable from XDA forums website. xPosed installer provides the platform for the other two. The xPosed additions can map the hardware key (Nook key) to provide additional control such as a "Go back" button function, absolutely essential to perform Android operations. I suggest mapping "long press" for Go Back, "double click" for Home, and defeat "single click" to avoid inadvertent quitting from reading if your finger touched the capacitive key by mistake, a problem many users and reviewers complained. The Prevent Running will stop designated apps from running in the backgrond when not in active status, to free up memory and extend battery life.
5, Install a good dictionary app (mdict, bluedict, color dict ......) and several compatible dictionaries (American Heritage, Webster, Oxford....... French? Japanese? Chinese? Take your picks!) to your NGP. Also install a text input app to go with the dictionaries, Google keyboard is good.
6, The fun part, install whatever e-reader apps you want! You already have the Nook app built-in for e-pub books, you may want Kindle for Amazon books, and maybe an app to read comics! There are some really impressive reader apps with greater flexibility than either Nook or Kindle, such as multi-format support, setting margins, using custom fonts, controlling line spacing, paragraph spacing ......, in short, endless options. Good examples include FBReader, ALReader, Moon Reader, Mantano ......
Now your NGP is a powerful, any-format e-reader, with multiple dictionaries for press-to-translate if matched to appropriate e-reader apps, as well as an Android tablet with an e-ink display. Infinitely stronger than what you originally thought, infinitely better than all those on-line magazine reviewers gave the product credit for, and infinitely more enjoyable to you, the informed user! Great display, great front-lighting, tank-like aluminium shell, ...... NGP is indeed the best e-reader money can buy as of today!"
